Why Switzerland is Perfect for a Winter Holiday

Switzerland boasts some of the best ski resorts, ski hotels and of course catered ski-chalets in the Alps -  and is one of the most popular european ski holiday destinations year after year. Situated right in the middle of the Alps and surrounded by some of the world’s most iconic mountains it offers superb skiing for all abilities.

As well as world famous resorts such as Davos, Grindelwald and Zermatt, Switzerland also has some great less-known resorts which also offer impressive slopes such as Villars and Murren. It is also home to Europe’s biggest glacier, the Aletsch in Valais.

Skiing in Switzerland is a safe option for some late-season action as some of its resorts sit among the concentration of 13,000ft-plus peaks in the Alps guaranteeing good snow conditions. Because of its varied landscape and climate, Switzerland offers a large variety of sports to its inhabitants and visitors and with some of the highest summits skiing can be an all year round sport.

Swiss resort Zermatt was declared to be the best ski area of 2012 in the’ Alpine skiing’ category. It is the third consecutive year the German ‘ski bible’ ADAC SkiGuide has given Zermatt the top spot. It’s variety of pistes, including the longest in the Alps are “extremely varied and, in some cases, record-breaking.”

This year some British operators have reduced their stock of resorts in anticipation of falling demand for Switzerland so it could be the perfect time to pick up a last minute deal. You will not be disappointed with the quality of skiing on offer
